Stomach endoscopy (gastroscopy)

Stomach endoscopy (gastroscopy)

We care for the health of the stomach

During gastroscopy, the esophagus, stomach and duodenum are examined using a flexible instrument about the size of a little finger. The gastroscope is inserted through the mouth. A high-resolution camera at the front end of the endoscope allows the respective area to be viewed and images or video recordings to be taken. This enables the doctor to determine the exact cause of your symptoms (ulcers, inflammation, varicose veins) and to initiate effective treatment as early as possible. If necessary, tissue samples can be taken during the examination, which are then examined microscopically by the pathologist.

I use the most modern and high-resolution video endoscopes. The best technology and my many years of experience guarantee you a safe, fast and pain-free examination. In addition to your safety and comfort, we attach great importance to maximum hygiene . All of our endoscopes are cleaned using the most modern, automatic processing systems. We are subject to regular quality and hygiene checks by the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. The examination is usually carried out with a short-acting "sleeping injection" (sedation). You sleep through the examination and are awake again at the end of the examination. During the examination, your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation of the blood are continuously monitored.

The sedative injection is available free of charge to every patient in my practice. This means that there are no additional costs for you if you decide to have the examination with a sedative injection.

Preparation

for Stomach endoscopy (gastroscopy)

In order to be able to assess the upper digestive tract accurately, it must be free of food residues.

Therefore, you should not eat anything for 8 hours before the examination.

On the day of the examination, you should also not drink anything for at least 2 hours beforehand.

Medications can be taken with a small sip of water up to 3 hours before the procedure at the latest. If necessary, bring your medication with you to our practice so that you can take it after the examination.

If you are taking blood-thinning medication (except ASA), you must first discuss taking it or a possible break in treatment with the examining doctor.

Please note, however, that you will then not be allowed to actively participate in road traffic for the entire day.

The actual gastroscopy usually takes less than 5 minutes and is well tolerated even without a sedative injection or anesthesia. If you would like a sedative injection, this is of course possible at any time.

30 minutes after the examination, you can eat and drink normally again
